On Monday the 8th of November, 2021 the first matches of the league took place; red against purple and green against blue. The lesson started with a briefing from our glorious teachers. We then got straight into games, after lining up and shaking hands with the opposing team - what signs of sportsmanship.
The game started slowly due to the excellent plays from each team. Nicolas, our goalkeeper, made some excellent saves despite the constant attacks from the purple team’s excellent strikers, Mile and Andrew. The first goal scored was an outstanding shot from Andrew, and despite Nicolas’ best efforts, he scored to a round of cheering from the purple team.
The time between purple scoring and us (red) scoring felt like an eternity. Everyone on the team was putting in all the effort they could to attack purple and defend us from another goal, which would’ve been disastrous for us. Porter, of the red team, exceeded expectations by heroically tackling Edsel for the ball, which was clearly about to be passed into the box, meaning another goal.
After an age of being 1 point down, a final push from the red team meant that Patrick was able to complete the dreamlike goal of scoring against purple’s amazing defenders and goalkeeper. Patrick scored to a great cheer from everyone on the red team; he had surely earnt himself the title of man of the match. His skill had not won red the game, but it had kept red from losing.
The rest of the game was relatively uneventful; it seemed both teams were content with a draw. Of course, both teams were still trying hard, but the same passion and excitement that was present during the push to reach the point of said draw.
The game ended seemingly as soon as it had started; we shook hands and headed back to the changing rooms. Being on two points gives us a decent start for next week, but it’s not as good as the three that blue had secured in their game against green.
In conclusion, our football game went well; we were able to secure a 1-all draw against the purple team, with Andrew from purple and Patrick from red scoring. Our (red team’s) man of the match was Patrick, due to his excellent goal scored just at the perfect time.
